Bathroom Lighting & Electrical Planning

Layer lighting for grooming, general illumination and atmosphere, then verify that every electrical component is suitable for its location and local code.

Use more than one lighting job

Ceiling lighting can provide general illumination, while vertical light near the mirror can reduce facial shadows. Shower or tub lighting, night lighting and decorative lighting are separate decisions. A single bright ceiling fixture rarely does everything well.

Choose colour quality deliberately

Compare lamps and fixtures for colour rendering, colour temperature, dimming behaviour and replacement availability. Matching colour appearance across multiple fixtures helps the room feel intentional.

Electrical safety is location-specific

Important: Bathroom receptacles, lighting, fans, heated floors and equipment can have special electrical requirements based on proximity to water and the jurisdiction. Electrical work should comply with the applicable code and inspection requirements.

Plan switches and controls

Think through what should operate together and what needs independent control. Fan timers or humidity controls, dimmers, night lights and heated-floor thermostats can make the room easier to use, but they need wall space and appropriate wiring.
