Use specification sheets
Do not rely on a showroom label or a generic product category. Toilets, shower valves, tubs, sinks and faucets can differ in rough-in dimensions, mounting details and required clearances. Keep specification sheets with the project documents.
Think about serviceability
Valves, cartridges, traps and mechanical components may eventually need repair. Make access reasonable where the product or code requires it, and retain model numbers and warranty information.
Water efficiency and performance
Efficient fixtures can reduce water use, but compare certified performance information where available and make sure the product suits the household. Local rebate programs and efficiency labels differ by country and region.
Avoid mixing incompatible parts
Valve bodies, trim kits, drains and accessories often belong to specific product families. Confirm compatibility before rough-in, especially when buying components from multiple suppliers.
