Bathroom Vanities & Storage: Plan Around Daily Routines

The best vanity is not simply the widest one that fits. It should support plumbing, clearances, drawers, cleaning, lighting and the items used every day.

Choose storage type before style

List what must be stored at the vanity and elsewhere. Drawers can improve access to small items; deep cabinets may suit larger items but can become cluttered. Tall cabinets use vertical space efficiently but can affect sight lines and electrical placement.

Coordinate sink and faucet

Sink depth, countertop thickness, faucet reach and backsplash height interact. Vessel sinks especially can change the required counter and faucet heights. Check exact dimensions together.

Wall-hung versus floor-standing

A wall-hung vanity can make cleaning easier and reveal more floor, but it needs appropriate wall support and careful drain planning. A floor-standing vanity may be easier to fit over existing plumbing and can offer more traditional proportions.

Recessed storage

Medicine cabinets and wall niches can save space, but wall cavities may contain pipes, vents, wiring or structure. Confirm what is inside the wall before ordering a recessed product.
